Google Maps 2021 plans were revealed by Google. The navigation team will be extremely busy during these months. While there will be many changes, the overall direction appears to be one: navigation based on Artificial Intelligence. They are to operate indoors and choose a route that allows for less vehicle use in this manner. By the way, we are aware of the destination’s weather and air quality.
Of course, there will be many more functions, and simply listing them does not give us a complete picture of what to expect. Therefore, it is worth taking a closer look at what they are supposed to bring.
View in Real-Time
It’s difficult to say which of these features is the most significant. The Indoor Live View option, on the other hand, is the most effective. Users of Google Maps will soon be able to use this feature to navigate to locations such as shopping malls, airports, and public transportation stations. So, if you’re looking for a specific store in the massive mall you’re visiting for the first time and it’s only at the entrance, you don’t have to go backward. Google Maps may be able to assist you in locating your location. Of course, the mall in question must be added to the maps for this to work. This feature may not be available in some Polish stores or airports for several months. On the other hand, we’re already under lockdown.
The weather and the quality of the air
Other significant additions to Google Maps are new weather and air quality layers. The weather layer, as the name implies, will display current and forecast weather conditions at your destination or city. The most important option, however, is the forecasted weather. Do you want to go to the sea when the sun is shining? The maps will tell you if it will start raining with the arrival. The air quality layer, on the other hand, will tell you what the current air quality is at your location. This option will initially be available in India and Australia, but will eventually be available throughout the world.
Reduced fuel consumption
Then there are the environmentally friendly routes. These essentially allow you to choose the most fuel-efficient route to your destination. According to Google, Maps will determine fuel-efficient routes by taking into account factors such as traffic congestion and road gradients. Surprisingly, these are the routes that will be preferred when the road is calculated. Do you care about the environment? I’m sorry, but please consider your wallet. Furthermore, Google intends to notify drivers if their vehicle is in a restricted emissions zone. Drivers in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Spain, and the United Kingdom will be the first to benefit from this feature.
Alternatives for travel
Google also intends to group all routes and modes of transportation under a single Travel Options tab. Priority will be given to our most frequently used travel methods as well as those most popular with other Map users in the area. At a glance, you can also see which modes of transportation are environmentally friendly, which should make your choice of transportation much easier. This feature will be rolled out globally in the coming months.
Order purchases via Google Maps
The last point is critical not only during a pandemic but also before and after. Google Maps will soon include support for grocery orders. Google will add information about supported stores to the business profiles in the app and search results. Furthermore, the application will inform you of the pickup and delivery times, fees, and minimum order values. The program is to start in the US, but Google hopes that retail outlets from around the world will join it over time.
As you can see, Google has a lot of news planned for this year. Let us hope that the work on them is completed without major complications and that the result is at least satisfactory.
